Killer Mike and El-P dropped their new album, Run The Jewels 3, ahead of the anticipated release date. on Christmas. In addition to dropping the album, Killer Mike and El-P simultaneously released a hilarious skit with Portlandia's Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. In the sketch, the four discuss potential album release strategies that quickly become outrageous. From swallowing pills with a USB drive of the album inside to the new album being delivered by the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

The album dropped to major critical and commercial success, debuting at No. 35 and peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard 200. In the first week alone, it sold 23,000 units. It's critical reception was equally glowing, with near industry-wide praise for its classic RTJ sound and fiery critique of contemporary politics.
