Following a Sundance premiere, Kamasi Washington has officially released the short film, As Told to G/D Thyself.

The 22-minute short is directed by the newly formed Umma Chroma collective, comprising Washington, as well as filmmakers, Terence Nance (of Random Acts of Flyness and LeBron James' upcoming Space Jam reboot,) Jenn Nkiru, Bradford Young, and Marc Thomas.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Washington noted that compositions from Heaven and Earth were reworked for the "fourth part of the album." In both the CD and vinyl packaging of the 2018 concept album, the orchestral jazz stalwart stashed a hidden third disc called "The Choice" that needed to be physically unearthed from the gatefold or jacket. It featured contributions from Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Chris Dave, and more.
