Wale sat down for an interview with UPROXX and wound up touching on a variety of topics. The D.C. spitter had no shortage of opinions and reflections regarding some of the best and brightest in hip-hop–including peers like J. Cole and Future. While taking part in their Sound Check, Wale gave his take on Future’s music and career and he offered high praise to the Atlanta trap icon.
“He’s already revered,” Wale explained. “And I think history is going to be kind to him. He’s a pillar of a few generations. He’s big. He different.”
Wale just recently dropped his new album, Everything Is A Lot. While speaking with host Jeremy Hecht, Wale shared his thoughts on artists who inspire him like Jay-Z and Michael Jackson. Hecht raved about the opportunity to sit down with the emcee.
“One of my favorite rappers of all time and a bucket list interview,” Hecht captioned on Instagram. “The fan in me was sneaking out in every round lol”
Elsewhere in the interview, he was asked to share memories from his time on Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour back in 2009 and 2010. The tour stretched from September to March, and featured then-upstarts Wale and J. Cole as opening acts for Hov, as well as N.E.R.D., Trey Songz and Jeezy.
Wale remembered a specific incident involving Cole where the North Carolina native lost his cool.
“Boy, I got some stories,” Wale said. “Nobody’s ever seen [J. Cole] lose his temper ever, right? Like, he’s so calm. Oh boy. The last day of tour, bro. We go to Jay’s suite or somethin’. Everyone’s up there, whatever. We had to leave … we get down by the bus, and all I remember is Cole going at it with this tour manager. To this day, I’ve never seen him that mad. He’s all zenned out now, I’ll never forget that. All I know is I was just in shock.”
