For Spotify's 'Best Advice' series, the Philly MC shared a gem from a hip-hop giant.

Spotify's "for Artists" division works to connect aspiring artists with the industry at large. Previously, legends like Quincy Jones, Mary J Blige, and Kamasi Washington have joined their "Best Advice I Ever Got" series. Their latest episode features rising star Tierra Whack, who shared some direction she received from one of the most elusive figures in music.

"[Andre] told me it's very important to build a very strong team," Whack said. She went on to cite her mentor Kenete Simms. "I would overthink things, but he would be right there like 'keep going, you got it." Whack is known for her eclectic--often described as scattered--aesthetics. She credits Simms for finding comfort in the frenetic.

"I was just scatterbrained, like just so many random crazy ideas," she said. "It wasn't coming together for me. He was like 'that's you. You're crazy. You have so many different moods and expressions. We're going to find a way to make this make sense for the world."

"So much is going on and I'm the center of attention, you gotta have that support. But no yes men," she added. "As you get bigger, you have people that just want to tell you yes. Everything you say, they're going to agree with, and I never want that. If something's wrong, tell me."
