Under the artist name Dola, the artist is gearing up to release her first EP, SPACE DAUGHTER.
Multi-hyphenate Condola Rashad unveils her new single "Blue" under the artist name Dola, it's also the first track off a forthcoming EP. The release of the song and music video comes at a strange time as the world copes with the growing coronavirus pandemic.
Rashad has previously garnered a fanbase after starring in Showtime's critically acclaimed series Billions, she's been seen on Broadway in Saint Joan, A Doll's House, Part 2, Romeo and Juliet, The Trip to Bountiful, opposite Cicely Tyson and Stick Fly.
In an interview with Vogue, the four-time Tony nominee shared that she debated dropping music in the tumultuous time we're currently living in. She ultimately decided it was the right move. " If there’s ever a time to share whatever you have that might bring some balance, it’s now, and my contribution happens to be all virtual—it felt weird to wait until it was a better time for me to release the song if it could potentially bring a smile to somebody, or remind them of someone, or let them groove for a second," she said in the feature.
"Blue" will be a part of her forthcoming visual project, SPACE DAUGHTER which Rashad conceived, produced and co-directed. As the U.S. works to battle against the looming virus, she decided to donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the single to those affected by COVID-19. The proceeds will benefit the Food Bank for New York City, according to Playbill.
On the upcoming project she shared:
"I've been working on this project for almost two years. While I’m not physically able to be in the presence of my friends and family at this time, this offering is the next closest thing to being near them. All of my love goes into my music—sharing my music is equivalent to sharing my love."
