On Wednesday, May 22, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin revealed that the $20 bill will not be redesigned in 2020. The redesign, which was supposed to be planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment (the amendment which granted women the right to vote.)
The decision to put Tubman on the $20 bill came in 2016 by former Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. However, President Donald Trump has criticized the decision, calling it an example of political correctness.
“The primary reason we have looked at redesigning the currency is for counterfeiting issues...Based upon this, the $20 bill will now not come out until 2028. The $10 bill and the $50 bill will come out with new features beforehand.”
