The Game got real about cardio health and his own family history. The West Coast rap vet made an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, where he talked to hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson about why cardio is important for him. Game shared his own family’s health history while explaining why it’s important for him to stay active.
“Whether I’m walking or running, I’m doing something,” Game explained. “I’m keeping it moving. Cuz my grandmother told me, before she passed, when you stop moving, your body thinks you’re chillin.’”
The rapper lost his father, George Taylor, and said that it has been a wake-up call and gave him a big reason to stay mindful of his heart health.
“My pops died from a heart attack in 2018,” he said. “So that’s number one. That’s my bloodline. That’s my old man. He died from a heart attack at 65 years old. My mom has a pacemaker that’s keeping her going every day. She’s in the hospital now. She about to get out of there. But those are my parents.”
He says that both of his parents facing heart issues has emboldened him to always be on top of his own body and maintain an active lifestyle.
“My father died from cardio problems. My mom has cardio history,” Game said. “So, me, as their direct link, their son, I gotta be intentional about gettin’ it in.”
He also told Barnes and Jackson that even as former athletes (Game played high school basketball), they have to be aware of how the body changes as you age, and adjust accordingly.
“These days we’ve got to really look in the mirror and get adapted to where we are now in life,” he advised. “And we’ve got to make changes.”
