Will Smith to Play Serena & Venus Williams' Dad in Upcoming Movie

This has become a controversial pick.
Will Smith is set to play Richard Williams — the father of Serena and Venus Williams — in an upcoming movie, according to a new report from Deadline.
The movie, which will be called King Richard, will tell the story of how a Compton man with no Tennis background raised two of the greatest tennis players of all time. The script was written by Zach Baylin. (It was a screenplay that recently appeared on The Black List.)
Upon the announcement, there was some criticism with the pick on Twitter. Williams is a dark skin man; Smith is not. Why couldn’t they find someone who was closer to his complexion?
Colorism matters..love will Smith but there are other black actors for this role https://t.co/qrV1QuBiJH

Why is he always cast in roles portraying dark skin men like there aren’t tons of black actors that would make more sense for the role? https://t.co/1VcZyCmwTK
