Ryan Coogler’s hit horror film, Sinners, is now the most Oscar-nominated film of all time. Nominees for the Annual Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning, Jan. 22, and the movie landed a whopping 16 nominations — the most ever.

Sinners star Michael B. Jordan earned his first nomination, a Best Actor nod for his performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in the period film. Alongside Jordan, co-stars Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku landed first-time nominations, as did director Coogler.

Teyana Taylor also got nominated for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s action-comedy One Battle After Another, which also saw nominations for Anderson as director and a Best Actor nomination for star Leonardo DiCaprio

In an October interview with Variety, Coogler talked about Jordan’s Oscar buzz following the critical and commercial success of Sinners

“I do think he stepped it up to another level on this,” Coogler said of Jordan’s performance in Sinners. “We asked him to do this difficult thing technically, playing two different characters, but it also was a performance that we needed to have the backstory that we had before to pull this off. To see him recognized by his peers and other folks in the industry, I know that would mean a lot to him.”

The Oscars will be hosted by Conan O'Brien on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PT.
