Shaggy to Host ‘Lottery’ Album Signing at I AM CARIBBEING in Brooklyn
The new album features appearances from Anthony Hamilton, Jeremih and more.
Shaggy is bringing his new album, Lottery, to Brooklyn.
The reggae and dancehall icon will host an album signing at I AM CARIBBEING on Tuesday, May 19, celebrating a project that fuses reggae, dancehall and R&B influences with appearances from Anthony Hamilton, Jeremih, Robin Thicke, Akon and Sting.
But according to Shaggy, those collaborations came together organically.
“I wasn't specifically looking for an R&B sound,” he tells Okayplayer. “I let each song dictate the collaboration. If a song sounded like it needed a certain tone, I'd look to artists with that sound and reach out based on the relationship I have with them.”
For Shaggy, the album title reflects the mindset he’s carried throughout his nearly three-decade career.
“The album is called Lottery — it really represents the journey I've been on, always betting on myself,” he shares. “That's the only way I've gotten through, especially in a game where there's little support for the genre of music I'm in. Reggae and dancehall haven't had the same opportunities as other genres, so going against the grain and believing in myself is the only way.”
Shaggy says the album is meant to take listeners through different emotions and experiences.
“With my albums, I like to take fans on a journey,” he adds. “A rollercoaster ride filled with different emotions that build to an eargasmic climax to satisfy their musical palette. All in all, I hope it brings pure entertainment and joy!”
Hosted in partnership with Okayplayer, the signing will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Brooklyn’s Little Caribbean neighborhood.
