The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating, after a woman in her 30s was arrested in connection with a barrage of gunfire that reportedly struck the home of Rihanna. According to The Los Angeles Times, the singer was at home at the time of the shooting, which happened around 1:15pm on the 9500 block of Heather Road in the Beverly Crest neighborhood.
Approximately 10 shots were fired at the residence from a car that was either stopped or parked across the street. At least one round penetrated the wall of the house. A weapon was recovered but the suspect has not been identified; they reportedly attempted to flee the scene in a white Tesla. Bullet holes were also found in the property’s gate and an RV parked in the driveway. When police searched the suspect’s car, they said they found an AR-15-style rifle and seven casings, LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias said.
Investigators are still determining a motive for the attack.
“I was a little shocked. We don’t hear that kind of thing in this neighborhood. It’s pretty quiet,” neighbor Isabel Thorne told reporters at the scene. “I just heard one shot. It was really loud. Everything in this valley echoes. Even when someone has a party, when there’s music.”
Part of the street was blocked off with yellow crime-scene tape, as police talked to private security. Thorne said that police were on-scene within ten minutes of her hearing the gunfire, which she heard as she was washing dishes.
Rihanna has not publicly commented on the shooting. Police confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.
Rihanna’s home has been targeted before.
In 2018, a man broke into her Hollywood Hills home and spent 12 hours inside after climbing over a fence. Rihanna was not home at the time. Her assistant discovered the man. Eduardo Leon pleaded no contest to stalking the entertainer.
