HEAR: Redman Shares New Details Into Phife Dawg’s Long-Anticipated Posthumous Album
In the lead up to the forthcoming release of his "lost" INI sessions, Pete Rock has relinquished a pair of beats from the project. The first, aptly titled “Aretha,” flips a 1971 ballad from the unmatched Queen of Soul, while the latter finally sees an official release for the score to a legendary Hot 97 cipher, featuring Phife, Q-Tip, Black Thought and Consequence, with Chocolate Boy Wonder even stepping up the mic for a minute.
For those old enough to remember a pre-corporate Hot 97, the segment from which the latter originates, Future Flavas, was a spotlight program for emerging underground MCs, hosted by Marley Marl and Pete Rock. And this should take you right back to that rugged and raw sweet spot.
Pete Rock's new project is out this Friday, November 24th, and is available to pre-order via Vinyl Digital today. Here both instrumentals and the original cipher below.
