October is the season of goblins and ghouls, but this month is also set for some seriously strong, high profile releases.
You’ve got the much anticipated posthumous Mobb Deep album, Infinite, featuring Alchemist working elbow-to-elbow with Havoc. Ty Dolla $ign finally drops the long-awaited Tycoon, and we get the new heat from Daniel Caesar, who pays tribute to family on his upcoming project; and Khalid, who is promising the start of a bold new era .
BIA drops BIANCA and we also got the conceptual new Princess Nokia project GIRLS. The new EP from Leon Thomas is coming on the heels of a ridiculous hot streak— and Bryson Tiller’s Solace & The Vices looks to be a bold step forward.
Here are some of the albums we are looking forward to this month.
BRYSON TILLER - ‘SOLACE & THE VICES’ (Oct. 3)
His new project feels like a testament to both craftsmanship, intention, and vibe. He’s delivering an album that celebrates life while examining the pain and struggle inherent in living; offering meaning in the contradictions we all live with.
BIA - ‘BIANCA’
(Oct. 10)
The brassy, sharp persona gets to showcase a side that is vulnerable and introspective–in a project that celebrates the woman, the story, the soul. She’s giving you her true self. Raw and real.
KHALID - ‘AFTER THE SUN GOES DOWN’
(Oct. 10) He says this album explores “themes of love, self-discovery, openness, and a refreshed sense of freedom,” as he steps into a new chapter as he’s able to finally “express myself freely.”'
(Oct. 10)
PRINCESS NOKIA - 'GIRLS'
The Nuyorican rapper exposes the duality of misogyny in a world that tends to blame and bash women endlessly no matter what they do. Her latest singles have perfectly laid the foundation for where she’s going on the bold and conceptual Girls.
THE COOL KIDS - ‘HI TOP FADE’ (Oct. 10)
Chuck Inglish and Sir Michael Rocks are back after three years, with a 15-track project sprouted from a side collaboration with Mannie Fresh and Fool’s Gold founder A-Trak.The duo bounced around Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Chicago, laying down the tracks.
MOBB DEEP - ‘INFINITE’ (Oct. 10)
The first Mobb Deep album in over a decade. Who best to work through a posthumous release with Havoc than the Alchemist? Who bette r to help celebrate the legacy of the Mobb and the late, great Prodigy? Hav has already said this is a “full circle’ moment.
BRUISER WOLF AND HARRY FRAUD - ‘MADE BY DOPE’ (Oct. 15)
Early indicators are that it will be fire. Heads are more than ready for this one. After dropping lead single “Raised By Dope” with Benny The Butcher, the buzz has only grown for what Fraud and Wolf got cooking.
DAVE EAST - ‘KARMA 4’
(Oct. 15)
The Harlem native is back with a massive 26-track project. He’s been warming up the audience with singles this year, and there are high profile collabs and a mission statement to go along with this ambitious album.
GUCCI MANE - ‘EPISODES’ (Oct. 17)
The trap icon is bringing his new album and his second book to the people, and the project looks to be his most bare bones yet. Guwop is laying bare everything that got him here, the good the bad and the Gucci.
TY DOLLA $IGN - ‘TYCOON’ (Oct. 17)
Fans are practically frothing at the mouth for this album. After dropping lead single “All In,” and after delays halted its initial July release date, Ty’s fourth album is set to hit the streets.
MIGUEL - ‘CAOS’ (Oct. 23)
The Grammy winner hasn’t released an album since 2017, but his new project arrives later this month— on his 40th birthday, no less. He’s dropped some non-album singles but they may not indicate where his 12-song album goes.
DANIEL CAESAR - ‘SON OF SPERGY’ (Oct. 24)
The album gets its title from Caesar’s father's nickname. It’s fitting for a release that taps into history, expression and the power of family.
LEON THOMAS - ‘PHOLKS’ (EP) (Oct. 24)
Who is having a stronger year than this supremely talented singer, songwriter, musician and actor? After back-to-back albums that drew tremendous critical praise, he drops an EP of new material.
RODDY RICCH - THE NAVY ALBUM (Oct. 24)
It’s been delayed for what seems like forever, but we get the new album from Roddy in late October. Patience is a virtue.
BIG L - ‘HARLEM’S FINEST: RETURN OF THE KING’ (Oct. 31)
Mass Appeal continues their rollout of new projects by hip-hop icons with this posthumous project from one of the game’s most revered—and one of its most tragic losses
