Valentine’s Day has a few speeds.
There’s soft-launch love. Sneaky link love. And then there’s “don’t ask questions” love.
There are roses and thoughtful notes. Instagram posts of an arm or silhouette. “Be mine forever.” And then there’s “I’ll be outside in 10.”
So when we asked Brooklyn rap crew 41 — made up of Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter and TaTa — to curate a Valentine’s Day playlist, we specifically requested background music that isn’t exactly for candlelit dinners.
This is ratchet Valentine’s.
The kind that understands vibes aren’t always coy. Sometimes they flex. Sometimes they dance. Sometimes they talk a little spicy. Attraction has range. It can be romantic, but it can also be competitive, playful and slightly unhinged — in the best way.
41’s sound already lives in that pocket. High-energy. A tad mischievous. Confident enough to shoot their shot first. Their playlist picks follow suit — a mix of R&B and hip-hop that soundtrack eye contact from across the room, late-night drives, and questionable decisions that make for great stories later.
There are songs where the tension builds. Records that paint love in messy and beautiful strokes. Anthems for the “we’re just friends” crowd who absolutely are not just friends. And of course, a few tracks that understand today’s love language comes with a little boldness behind it.
Because let’s be clear: Valentine’s Day isn’t a one-size-fits-all T-shirt. Some people want flowers. Some want vibes. Some want both. There are some who might want none of the above.
Nevertheless, this playlist is for the ones who know love can be fun, dramatic, chaotic, affectionate, competitive and loud — all at once.
So whether you’re cuffed, single, outside, or pretending you don’t care… 41 just handed you the soundtrack.
Press play responsibly.
Or don’t. It’s your call.
