YG, DB Tha General & Blanco Kick Back On "G Thang" (Prod. Cookin Soul)

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Compton MC YG has done nothing but impress with his recent string of singles. The 25-year-old hooked up with his neighbor, Terrace Martin, on the G-funk revival cut "Twist My Fingaz," and now he's connected with Spanish beat soothsayers Cookin Soul for a joint that's, dare we say it, even smoother?

On "G Thang," YG keeps the airy Californian style coming and uses the signature funk guitar of Cookin Soul as a jumping off point from which to spit rapid-fire heat. Flanked by fellow Californian MCs DB Tha General and Blanco, the man professes his commitment to a certain set of vices that pair perfectly with the bright, endless sun in his part of the world. With this beat and that landscape, though, can anyone blame him?

Cookin Soul called upon Jake One and Bay Area session musician G Koop to compose their "G Thang" beat, and their sly back-and-forth rock is a kind of affirmation: summer's not over yet, and the best of it may still be on its way. Listen to the new cut below and keep an eye out--word is this trio still have a full CS-produced EP in the works.
