Okayafrica: Yasiin Bey & Petite Noir Confirm Collaboration + Talk Noirwave

Yasiin Bey & South Africa's Petite Noir Confirm Collaboration + Talk Noirwave With DAZED Magazine.

Celebrated Brooklyn MC Yasiin Bey and South Africa's Petite Noir recently confirmed that they have been working collaboratively in an interview with DAZED Magazine. The news puts fans' speculations to rest after Yasiin's move to South Africa got tongues wagging about the creative possibilities his presence on the cape might encourage. Yasiin got the ball rolling after mentioning his interest in working with the father of Noirwave during an interview with Rolling Stone SA. Petite Noir countered with a photo of Yasiin in the studio, which was posted to his Instagram account. The confirmation that the pair were working together set fans on fire. Bey talks about how he first encountered Petite Noir's music and gives some insight into what they have been up to thus far:

I remember seeing (Petite) Noir sing and I was like, ‘Wow!’ It struck a chord. I really wanted to work with this guy. I found out he was Cape Town-based through Abdi Hussein – a fellow Brooklynite who I’ve known for many years. So it was really quite natural. Yannick asked me if I wanted to do something on [the forthcoming album--the title was originally reported as Ghosts but we've  since been informed that's incorrect - ed.] so he came to the studio and played some of his songs. A lot of the tracks really stuck out, it was incredible. I did a couple of rough sketches on a track and when I came back the following day to check it out I was actually really, really proud of it.

The collaborative tracks rooted in South Africa's Kwaito sound will be featured on Petite Noir's forthcoming Ghosts LP. Get the full rundown on what Yasiin Bey and Petite Noire have cooking via Okayafrica. Read the full interview via DAZED. Stay tuned for more.
