Watch Michael McDonald & Thundercat Join Forces At Brainfeeder’s LA Showcase

So, if you live in Los Angeles and didn’t attend the Brainfeeder showcase at the Hollywood Bowl well, you missed out. The initial lineup already featured the likes of Brainfeeder creator Flying Lotus, as well as Shabazz Palaces, Gaslamp Killer and George Clinton.

But there was talk of special guests and the showcase didn’t disappoint: during Thundercat‘s set legendary singer-songwriter Michael McDonald took the stage to perform The Doobie Brothers classic “What A Fool Believes,” as well as Thundercat’s very own “Then Changes.”

As you can see in the fan footage below, everyone responded to McDonald’s surprise appearance happily, the pairing between him and Thundercat so unexpected but it all makes sense when you really think about it.

2016 has been an exciting year for FlyLo’s Brainfeeder imprint. Aside from now putting on a memorable showcase he recently launched Brainfeeder Films alongside Eddie Alcazar, which the former has described as “A home for emerging artists.” Through Brainfeeder Films he’ll be releasing his first feature film Kuso, which tells a bigger story that was introduced in his directorial debut Royal.

“Eddie and I started Brainfeeder Films with the intention to produce and support influential and experimental entertainment for film and music fans around the world,” Flying Lotus said in a report from Variety. “I’ve always wanted Brainfeeder to be a home for emerging artists, creative talent, and filmmakers who are looking to work outside the traditional studio and independent distribution systems.”

Brainfeeder will also be releasing George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic’s next album, which serves as the follow up to 2014’s First Ya Gotta Shake The Gate. We’re also expected to get a new Thundercat album before the end of this year too, with the bassist having dropped “Bus In These Streets,” which is presumably from this forthcoming release.

Check out footage of McDonald and Thundercat jamming below, and let’s hope the former makes an appearance on the latter’s new album.
