Two of the brightest young stars in hip-hop lit up the Hot 97 studio over the weekend, as Tyler The Creator and Vince Staples both paid a visit to Peter Rosenberg's "Real Late" program and proceeded to freestyle over a pair of classic beats. Staples was given Outkast's "ATLiens" beat by Rosenberg, over which he started strong with an excellent string of rhymes before ultimately petering out--perhaps too real late for the young Vince? But no matter, Tyler was more than willing to pick things up from there, dishing out completely unrehearsed verses atop Lil Kim's "No Time" beat. All you really need to know about that one is Tyler shared the gem "Me and Vince go way back just like LeBron's hairline." Somewhere, Steph Curry is smirking.

The freestyle session took place some hours after Tyler The Creator had stopped by the radio station for a lengthy interview, one in which he expounded on how weird it feels for a Californian like him to roam around New York City ("I never see the sky out here. I saw it once and I was so confused"), the time he had a weird exchange with Denzel Washington, his constant admiration for Pharrell and just how badly he gets misunderstood on social media. Watch Tyler's freestyle with Staples below, and catch clips from the interview after the jump.
