Toro Y Moi Taps Into Psychedelic Pop On His New LP 'What For?' [Full Stream]

Toro Y Moi Shares Psychedelic New Single "Run Baby Run"

Chaz Bundick (AKA Toro Y Moi) is a man of many monikers with a palette to suit them all. Phase 1 of Toro Y Moi pioneered the new beat, flaunting psychedelic disco and upbeat breaks as his go-tos. Then came the house-flecked Les Sins, which gave us an album-full of dance floor fodder and an extensive world tour with Bundick behind the wheels of steal. But his return to Toro was marked by a more focused pop sound, keeping with the psychedelia, but kicking most of the breaks to the curb, putting down the heavy synths and picking up the six-string to lead his new batch of funk. The new sound seem to lay somewhere between the blistering, hallucinogen-heavy pop of Tame Impala and that lo-fi r&b we've always known Bundick for; a proper blend of heady vibes and focused pop. Today you'll have the opportunity to preview TYM's new poppy groove a full week before its official release via NPR First Listen. If you've got an hour to spare, I'd suggest you give this thing a run and bear witness to his new sonic schemes. You can listen to Toro Y Moi's What For? below. Preorder the record on iTunes today ahead of its April 7th release.
