Toro Y Moi Buffalo Cover Art
Toro Y Moi has just released his newest single, "Buffalo," ahead of his fast-approaching LP What For?, which drops April 7th on Carpark Records. Rich with shimmering guitars and popping funk bass, "Buffalo" recalls a bit of the sheeny groove material that dominated 2013's Anything In Return. Still, the track's live drums and emphasis of guitar over treated keyboards is keeping with the slightly-more-psych-rock tone of leadoff single "Empty Nesters," which had many wondering where Chaz Bundick's R&B vibes had run off to. Now it's clear that they haven't run too far off--"Buffalo" coasts through borderline disco territory as Bundick sings earworm melodies of how difficult it can be to get a new love up and running. Did last year's Chromeo connection cut Chaz a little deeper than he might have originally thought possible?
Its crisp three minutes recall a bit of Bundick's dance alter-ego Les Sins material, but slowed down and left out to soak in the synthetic sun. tender, tasteful, and sweeps along at an easy mid-tempo pace. Simply put: this might be the perfect summer song of 2015. Listen to "Buffalo" below and pre-order Toro Y Moi's upcoming disc What For? on iTunes today.
