Throwback Thursday: Nickodemus Bring Hip House Back w/ "Back In The Days" f/ Baby Bam & The Real Live Show
Remember Hip House? Best believe Nickodemus and Afrika Baby Bam from the Jungle Brothers do. The Jungle Brothers, of course, famously gave the late 8os best of both worlds microgenre its most anthemic hit with “I’ll House You” (although house beats that needed raps and rappers who needed a club hit were both plentiful enough in the native tongues era to give the hybrid genre a deep catalog of titles). So Baby Bam knows a thing or twelve about how to ride a 4 on the floor club-tempo track. Combine that refined level of MCing with bars from The Real Live Show and Nickodemus’ deeply-rooted-in-soul production and you get “Back In The Days.” Okayplayer is amped (pumped, stoked, raving, sweaty and funked up) to bring you an exclusive premiere of “Back In The Days” (Hip House Mix). Grab it below and hit the link to pre-order the deluxe bundle which includes 12″ vinyl and t-shirt as well as the full digipak of alternate mixes in true maxi-single style (remember maxi-singles?).
You may notice the “Back In The Days” artwork is comprised of tons of classic album covers and 12″ sleeves from Nickodemus crates. Since Throwback Thursday is about baby pics as much as Baby Bam, we asked Nick to send us shots of some of the house and hip-hop platters that inspired the tracks–check ’em on out in the gallery above and let the visual take you, ahem, back. In the days.
