New queenS on the blockTHEESatisfaction have expressed their unrequited love for Anita Baker with a new EP called (appropriately) THEESatisfaction Loves Anita Baker, harmonizing and scatting about prophecies fulfilled over stilted loops from the silken-voiced singer's catalogue (including her crossover smash "Sweet Love"). As a teenager I used to see Anita Baker shopping at Jacobson's department store, in the suburban enclave called "the village" which was just over the city line from my house on the east side of Detroit. I think I was probably the only person in Grosse Pointe, Mi. who ever recognized her. One time she smiled and waved back while I was trolling for some preppy gear to rock in the halls of Cass Tech. I realize this is kind of a tangent but if you listen to THEESat's EP it pretty much sounds how that moment felt. Stream/download below via bandcamp:
