The Roots To Headline Why Tuesday? #FIXITNOW Voting Campaign Concert In NYC, 11/02

The Roots Join Nonpartisan Non-Profit Why Tuesday? For Mid-Term Election Voter Turnout Concert, 11/02.

The Roots are set to join non-partisan, non-profit group Why Tuesday? to rally Congress to repair America's broken voting system at the Let's Fix it Get Out ALL of the Vote concert on November 2nd at Webster Hall in New York City. Driven by the country's horrendous voter turnout rates - the U.S. voting system ranks 138th out of 172 nations - the organization seeks to raise awareness for the cause by holding the rally and concert alongside a national contest with a $64,000 reward for the individual with the best estimation of voter turnout numbers for the 2014 midterm election. The Roots crew will headline the concert - a decent primer for the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act on August 6th, 2015 - in an effort to assist with the push to change America's "antiquated" approach to voting. Why Tuesday? co-founder William Wachtel explained the effort in conversation with RollingStone:

"We are asking the $64,000 question, because people don’t realize just how low our voter turnout is," Why Tuesday? co-founder William Wachtel said in a statement. “It’s not because Americans don’t care. It’s simply that an antiquated system makes it hard for people who do care to vote. Everyone agrees it’s broken, everyone agrees that there are practical ways to fix it, so the only challenge is to get our elected leaders to finally do something about it."

"The problem is that our elected officials don’t want to get out all of the vote; they want to get out their vote," said Why Tuesday? Chairman Andrew Young. "We look at it differently. We have Republicans, Democrats and independents coming together to say the system is broken and we need to fix it."
