First Look Fridays: Meet The Juggs!

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Brooklyn-based blues-rock band The Juggs comes at you with lead vocals by Kareem Bunton that sound like they've been soaked in honey, providing just enough soul to offset the distorted guitars. For a classic rock-n-roll dip in your library, look no further than their upcoming EP Midnight Shine, which will be available on iTunes starting June 25. It's a bit of a family affair since the project features guitar work from Kareem's brother Jaleel Bunton, who you can usually find slapping the bass for TV On The Radio. Produced by rocker Mick Collins, who you've probably heard of if you fuck with the Detroit punk scene, the tracks have a distinctly rock feel but are grooving enough not to blow your head off. The band described their sound as "fried ice cream with hot sauce and nuts on top" on their AfroPunk profile and frankly, that sounds pretty apt. This may be a bit of a step outside of your usual soundscape, but check it out because it's definitely good music. Both "Find A Way" and "Salt Air" are available below and you can check them out recording "I Hear Voices" at Converse Rubber Tracks last summer for another taste of their unique sundae.
