Tessa Thompson To Play Notorious Jewel Thief Doris Payne In New Biopic
The actress may be playing her most legendary role yet.
Actress Tessa Thompson has reportedly agreed to a role portraying the now 87-year-old renowned jewel thief, Doris Payne.
Codeblack Films has reportedly acquired the film rights to Payne’s life, and according to Variety, Thompson will co-produce the biopic with Jeff Clanagan. The biopic is set to be an action-drama in the vein of films like Catch Me if You Can and The Thomas Crown Affair.
Throughout her 60-year career, Payne has been arrested multiple times and has admitted to having 20 aliases, 10 Social Security numbers, and nine dates of birth.
Payne is known for essentially making a career of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from the 1950s up until now—as she continues to make headlines for arrests and robberies. She executed her most notable heist in the 1970s, when she stole a diamond ring valued at $500,000 in Monte Carlo.
Thompson recently starred in Creed and the first season of Westworld. She also plays a role in the highly anticipated and critically acclaimed Black Panther film this year.
