TED talks features Owen Biddle (former bassist for The Roots)
TED Talks--the famous live-streamed collection of innovative ideas in Technology, Enetertainment, Design recently featured Owen Biddle, former bassist of The Roots, in a unique presentation. Since his tenure with the Legendary Biddle has kept busy performing in the incredibly creative instrumental trio Mister Barrington. They use technology in innovative ways to assist in their improvisations. By using Abelton Live among other software, they run live instruments through MIDI channels in order to trigger synths and effects while playing acoustic instruments. With no loops or click tracks, they use a high-tech rig as the center of their experimental groove. Drummer Zach Danziger and Biddle recently used the approach to put their own spin on the idea of TED Talks. After opening with a pre-recorded description of their gear, the duo tears the roof off the place with a spellbinding freeform performance. Surrounded by two laptops, many cables, an electric bass and a drumset, the two men create truly unique music with the assistance of technology following them--and not the other way around.
