For what seems like ages now, the world has been aching for signs of life from Black Star, BKA the late-90s link-up of one Talib Kweli and the artist formerly known as Mos Def (now, Yasiin Bey). Outside of a few performances over the last decade (and by that, I mean literally a one-off every five years or so,) and that loosie Kweli dropped on his rarities compilation Train Of Thought, it’s been a flat-line from the cherished duo. Which isn’t to say that either of them has been inactive over the years. 2015 alone has probably proven to be one of their most visibly years in recent memory, particularly in the case of Black Dante. But there’s been no talk or action in the way of a follow-up to that monumental 1998 release, which celebrated its seventeenth year in the world just yesterday.
Luckily, for at least some of those in the world, a stage-side reunion is afoot for the BK MC and his enigmatic partner-in-rhyme. The good people of Australia will be treated to four shows from Black Star; not exactly a world tour or anything, but that’s certainly something to work with. There are four shows, all listed below. Meanwhile on this side of the pond, the drought continues.
