Talib Kweli Plans Free Ferguson Show 1 Year After Michael Brown's Murder

Almost a year a later and the wounds of Ferguson are far from healed. August 9th will mark the first anniversary of Michael Brown's death at the hands of police officer Darren Wilson--a year of grieving, pain and protest that has seen millions join the call for a more racially just nation, one in which black men and women are allowed the human right to live freely and fairly.

Many in hip-hop have been a part of this call, perhaps none more so than Talib Kweli, who visited Ferguson soon after Brown's killing and has written extensively on the need for a more open, equitable justice system and national conversation on race. Now, Kweli has announced a new benefit concert, happening in St. Louis on the anniversary of Brown's death with support from Bun B, Tef Poe, Rapsody, M1 of Dead Prez, 9th Wonder and other artists. Organizers will be accepting donations for the Brown family at the concert, and attendees are also encouraged to bring canned food donations for local food pantries.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m., August 9th at St. Louis's Fubar venue. See Kweli's flyer for the event below and stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the date. For those looking to raise a fist, shout out or perhaps simply nod their head for a truly vital cause, this is your shot. See you in St. Louis.
