Talib Kweli will take the stage at New York's celebrated Blue Note Jazz Club on September 18th and 19th for two intimate performances in support of his 2013 Prisoner of Conscious LP. The news follows the release of the album and the subsequent Gravitas LP - two acclaimed projects that marry great visuals and production with the rich and often challenging lyrical content fans have come to expect from Kweli. The performances - two shows per date - will focus on the sonic importance of the POC album, which marks Kweli's maturation in the span of 15 songs that are much more concerned with an overall sonic experience than a staunch allegiance to the boom-bap. Kweli explains his approach ahead of the upcoming performance, which is a continuation of the Blue Note's efforts to embrace exceptional talent in hip-hop:

"My music has been associated with those types of causes, with positivity, spirituality, intelligence and being thought-provoking and such," he says. "I think sometimes people get caught up in that part of me as an artist and don't necessarily understand the musicality or fully appreciate the music and the entertainment value behind what I do. I tried to stretch my wings a little bit and bring something that was less beholden to the world of hip-hop and more existing in the world in general."
