SZA Announces Release Date For Debut Album 'CTRL' + Talks Working With Rihanna & More

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

After much anticipation SZA's debut studio album CTRL has a concrete release date. The news was revealed during a conversation SZA had with Billboard. CTRL will be arriving on February 3rd. SZA also spoke about listening to her singing voice, working with Rihanna on Anti, and more. SZA also remarked on advice she received from Rick Rubin, saying "I had this mentality that ‘more is more’ -- more reverb, more background [vocals]. I played him a bunch of songs, and he would tell me, ‘The more you take away from any piece, the more room you create for everything else to be beautiful and grow.’ I never felt that before, the editing urge. Once you strip everything down, you’re forced to say something." Last week SZA dropped the single "Drew Barrymore." In addition to dropping the new track, SZA headed to Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform the song. Watch the performance here. The lead-up to the release of CTRL has seen some setbacks and delays. Last year the TDE singer tweeted, “I actually quit. @iampunch can still release my album if he ever feels like it.” 2016 saw TDE signees Schoolboy QLance Skiiiwalker, Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, and Isaiah Rashad all drop projects.
