Chris Rock stars in the first official trailer for the latest Saw film, Spiral.
Accompanying Rock who is also an executive producer for the movie is Samuel L. Jackson, the original Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules are producers. Spiral is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, reports Shadow & Act. The Saw movies ran from 2004 to 2017 and reportedly raked in $976 million at box offices worldwide.
Throughout the clip, Rock’s character Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks a detective is seen investigating what appears to be disturbing murders of cops. Additionally, Jackson plays a police veteran who is also on the hunt for the set of killers wreaking havoc on the city at the center of the film.
The official description for the film reads:
“Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock) and his rookie partner (Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.”
In a previously shared joint statement, Burg and Koules noted, “Chris wants to put his own spin on the Saw franchise in the way Eddie Murphy put a completely fresh perspective on buddy-cop films with 48 Hours. This new Saw is going to be an event film in the making for horror fans.” They added, “It will have all of the twists and turns and hardcore layers that our fans expect directed by one of the masters of the craft, Darren Lynn Bousman. We can’t wait to get started.”
The movie will reportedly hit theaters on May 15. Take a look at the trailer below.
