David Bowie's Personal Art Collection Is Heading To Auction
A conference titled "Blackstar Rising & the Purple Reign" will be held at Yale University in New Haven from January 25th to 28th. The conference will honor the legacies of the late musical legends Prince and David Bowie. All of the events will be free and available to attend by the community. Solange Knowles, Kimbra, Questlove, Sheila E., saxophonist Donny McCaslin, Greg Tate, Greil Marcus, Ann Powers, Alan Light, and many more will speak and perform at the event. David Bowie passed away one year ago on January 10, 2016 in Manhattan, New York City while Prince passed away on April 21, 2016 in Chanhassen, MN. The conference describes itself as a "multi-day symposium [that] will explore the careers of two singular musicians who changed the face of popular music culture in the second half of the 20th century. The program will bring together scholars, musicians, filmmakers, artists, journalists, and students for discussion, critical listening, and musical performances that explore ways in which popular music can create liberating spaces where audacious cultural and social changes and transformations might flourish."
