UPDATE: Solange honored Erykah Badu during Essence's 2017 Black Women in Music Event last night. "She is mother, she is sister, she is friend, she is auntie, she is chief, she is warrior of many tribes," She said of the Baduizm mastermind during her speech. "She is a beautiful reminder that you cannot put us in the box." Watch clips from Solange's speech and Erykah Badu's performance here and here.

Solange is the latest cover star for Elle magazine.

Yesterday, in anticipation for the magazine's upcoming release, preview quotes from Solange's cover story were released, in which she discusses the making of her standout 2016 album A Seat At The Table, as well as watching Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland interact with one another in Destiny's Child.

"I did want to create this juxtaposition, politically, of having these very hard, messy conversations but having them stylistically in a way that you can really hear me, and not the yelling, the rage," Solange said in regards to her album. "I wanted to project in my delivery what I was not achieving at all: peace and having a certain lightness and airiness that could maybe help me get closer to having more light and airiness in my life."

And as for growing up with Destiny's Child: "My sister and Kelly [Rowland] were the same age, which is like a built-in best friend in the house; they were extremely close. Writing felt like this insular thing that I could go back in my room and express all that I would observe, all the emotions that would arise. It felt like mine, my little thing."

The issue drops on February 21. Until then, you can read more from the preview here.

Solange recently performed in Houston for a Super Bowl LIVE event. The artist performed a medley of songs from A Seat At The Table, including "Cranes in the Sky," "F.U.B.U.," "Mad" and more. Prior to that she gave a speech at Yale University as a part of a conference on the legacies of Prince and David Bowie. Titled "Blackstar Rising & the Purple Reign," the conference featured Solange discussing a number of topics with Professor Daphne Brooks, including her album; performing; and, of course, the timeless influence of Prince and Bowie.
