Skeme Richards Packs Rare Breaks & Samples Into 'Shifting Gears' Tape
DJ and master crate digger Skeme Richards packs a plethora of rare breaks and samples into the forthcoming Shifting Gears tape, out July 21st via Record Breakin' Music. The limited-edition cassette houses a 60-minute all vinyl 45 RPM mix that moves to resurrect the true art of the mixtape. Digging deep into his back of tricks, The Nostalgia King pays homage to a golden era of hip-hop, its celebrated selectors and the most coveted physical media of the time:
Shifting Gears is strictly an analog recording using 2 turntables and mixer, a stack of 45’s acquired during his travels and then recorded directly to an old Fostex 4 track recorder that Skeme has owned since 1986. DO NOT expect to hear perfect blends and transitions with fancy audio effects but DO expect to hear perfection in the choice of selections and it’s presentation. DO NOT expect to hear high quality audio from a WAV or AIFF source, but DO expect to hear the warmth of vinyl and the slightest bit of tape hiss from a first generation copy.
