Sharon Jones Has Passed Away At 60
We've lost another legend this year. Sharon Jones, born Sharon Lafaye Jones, has passed away at the age of sixty. Jones was battling pancreatic cancer and was diagnosed as being stage two in 2013. Jones was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 4th, 1956. A powerful vocalist with a unique and memorable voice, Sharon Jones's sixth album Give the People What They Want was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best R&B Album. Jones was known for her high energy live shows and her work with the band the Dap-Kings, with whom she recorded seven albums. A statement made to Jones' Facebook announced the unfortunate news and included links to organizations where charitable donations can be made:
"We are deeply saddened to announce Sharon Jones passed away today after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings.Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
