Seu Jorge & The Decoders Cover Roy Ayers Live On KCRW

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Seu Jorge and The Decoders joined forces at the behest of legendary selector Gilles Peterson to perform the Roy Ayers classic "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" live on KCRW in May. The event held at Sonos Studios in Los Angeles was a live recreation of Peterson's influential BBC radio show that included an interview with KCRW's Jason Bentley. Om'mas Keith and Shafiq Husayn were also in the house with Egon, just to up the ante. After the interview the audience was treated to a few songs from The Decoders, then Seu Jorge hit the stage to join them for a magical performance of Roy Ayers' iconic soul track. The craggy folk of Seu Jorge's latin-inflected vocal was the perfect contrast to the dense soul coming from Jimetta Rose. Together they combined to deliver a powerhouse cover of the track - an impromptu one-night-only performance that fell directly into the tradition of great collaborations that have made Gilles Peterson's broadcasts and projects as culturally important as they are across the world. Listen to Seu Jorge and The Decoders' performance of "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" below. Tune into Gilles Peterson broadcasting every Sunday on BBC Radio 6.
