DJ Prince is gearing up to drop his debut LP Test My Sound on May 13th - the LargeUp-approved mixtape of the same name featured a snippet of the song "Shottas" which has now premiered in full on LargeUp.com. The single wastes no time - jumping right into a sample that alludes to classic dancehall tracks. The Long Island based MC/producer delivers Patois-infused English in the hook and gives us genuine hip-hop flow in his verse. The track also features Brooklyn native Sean Price, who brings us a more hardcore rap feel. DJ Prince has successfully blended dancehall and hip-hop to create a unique sound that would be close to home for any Jamaican-bred yardi or up any hip-hop fanatics alley.

The reggae themed hip-hop project is a true exploration of the culture, using drops and samples from Jamaica's veteran MCs. Prince cites Missy Elliot's Supa Dupa Fly and Mad Lion's Da Real Ting as big influences; he says that he “stole Missy’s swag and drank some of Mad Lion’s herbal roots tonic.” while having both albums on heavy rotation. The DJ's Jamaican heritage makes the project feel even more authentic - be assured, you'll hear a couple perfectly pronounced "bomboclaats" on Prince's debut LP.  Watch Okayplayer's video premiere of "Just A Little Bit" another single from Test My Sound and stream "Shottas" below.
