Rob Swift is a mainstay of the New York City DJ scene, and has been for decades. The Jackson Heights, Queens native has established himself as one of the best above the decks both as a solo artist and with the X-Ecutioners crew. DJing is Swift's passion, and with the help of a few generous fans, he's poised to bring his craft to brand new heights. A brand new Kickstarter campaign has been set up, dedicated to funding Rob Swift's upcoming album--his first in six years and one that will feature the talents of Large Professor, J-Live and Supernatural, amongst others. The LP has been dubbed X Files: Lost & Deleted
And here's the good news: Swift has already reached his $10,000 goal for X Files, which still has over two weeks left in its fundraising period. Portions of that total came from both Serato and Rane, both of which have pledged to work with Swift to bring DJ education and exclusive rewards to others who've been generous to donate to the album project. Call it a scholarship for scratching, if you will.
In a video for the campaign, Rob Swift appears both working the turntables and digging for vinyl at Manhattan's A1 Records. We're also told by the man himself how DJing made it possible for him to fulfill his dreams of performing for sprawling crowds, all in the name of hip-hop appreciation. "What I'm doing is reviving old music of mine that I've put out over the course of my career and breathing new life into it," Swift said. Rob also be the DJ-in-residence for the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, which takes place on July 11th.
