Last night at Los Angeles' Samuel Goldwyn Theater, all the stars came out to salute and remember the late Prince, who tragically passed at his Paisley Park home (and studio and concert space) on April 21st. The ceremony was attended by family and friends alike, including Spike Lee and Greg Phillinganes, featuring performances from Janelle Monae and Esperanza Spalding, both of which have proudly spent time and collaborated with The Purple One in their still young careers.
The ceremony was organized by Prince's ex-wives, Manuela Testolini and Mayte Garcia, the latter of which recently auctioned off a ton of personal items from his wardrobe and their wedding. Billboard reports that the ceremony also saw messages from Nile Rodgers and Mavis Staples, along with Recording Academy president Neil Portnow and Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who serves as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. No video from the evening has been made public, but we assume that a similar sort of remembrance ceremony will soon make its way out east, though there's certainly been no shortage of tributes in the last few weeks, with Questlove's Bowl Train acting as a weekly next-level group therapy session for us here in Brooklyn.
