OKP & Rare Form Team With World Up For Donuts Are Forever Scholarship Fundraiser

Donuts Are Forever 8

Okayplayer.com and Rare Form Promotions proudly announce music and technology non-profit World Up as the new Donuts Are Forever Scholarship partner. The announcement arrives alongside the first glimpses at Rare Form's upcoming t-shirt collaboration with Naturel and Freebase America for Donuts Are Forever 8. In the eight years since its inception, Donuts Are Forever has raised over $25,000 as the only annual fundraiser and tribute in New York inspired by the musical legacy of the late James "J Dilla" Yancey. Rare Form launched the Donuts Are Forever Scholarship Fund in 2011 to provide music education opportunities to participants of Groundwork for Success, a Good Shepherd Services college prep program in East New York, Brooklyn. All proceeds from those fundraising efforts have benefitted the scholarship or previous non-profit partners. World Up founder and executive director, Ebenezer Bond expressed excitement about the organization's decision to partner with Rare Form and Okayplayer for the upcoming tribute and fundraiser:

“The World Up crew has enormous respect for the mission of DAF and their annual event,” said World Upʼs founder and executive director, Ebenezer Bond. “We have long been fans of DAF and J Dilla's work. We are honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with DAF and bring our mission of empowering young people through music to augment the already amazing offerings at Groundwork.”

Rare Form is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration, according to Tara Duvivier:

“Having World Up join the DAF family significantly expands our ability to provide more resources to our Scholarship recipients,” said Tara Duvivier of Rare Form. “Their expertise in music education makes them a valuable partner in fulfilling the Scholarships mission of providing opportunities for kids interested in pursuing music as a career.”

Dubspot has also agreed to contribute to the fundraising efforts, by offering supporters the chance to enter to win a six-level Ableton Live course via Dubspot Online. Donuts Are Forever 8 goes down on February 16th at Brooklyn Bowl with host, Torae and special guests DJ Jazzy Jeff, Good Reverend Dr. J, DJ Prince, DJ Still Life, 6th Sense and DJ Parler on the decks spinning nothing but J Dilla. We fully expect to see your face in the place on Sunday night. Get more information about the Donuts Are Forever Scholarship and DAF8 via Donutsareforever.com.
