It’s almost Memorial Day weekend and y’all know what that means–Summer Music Festival Season 2015 is here. Our summer officially starts with Roots Picnic going down bigger than ever at Philadelphia’s aptly-named Festival Pier less than 10 days from now. But with the warm weather finally returning–and live music occupying a more central place in our industry and culture than ever before, music fans pretty much everywhere are gearing up for the full gauntlet of summer festivals, from the sprawling camp-out that is Bonnaroo to Brooklyn bar-hopping during Northside fest. Those willing to stay on their feet all day (and sometimes all night) will be rewarded with the chance to see their whole catalogue of most-played tunes come to life before their wondering eyes.
Don’t glaze over that ‘on your feet’ part, though–getting the most out of your festival experience can be like running a marathon. All great athletes come prepared and to support you in that advance training, Okayplayer has compiled an as-complete-as-possible guide to the very best summer music festivals of 2015 both at home and abroad, organized by month (we’ll add new info about late-summer jawns as it becomes available). From D’Angelo‘s European sojourns to Run the Jewels rocking a gorgeous gorge, this year has enough great lineups to make your aspirational itineraries burst at the seams. So page ahead and scroll through the roundup to pick your spots and plan your outbound travel. For accomodations and a ride back, bring a toothbrush and make a friend. Don’t forget to bring earplugs and stay hydrated–and we’ll see you out there in the sunsoaked pit.
