The Academy Awards has announced their shortlist for best documentary feature. The list includesI Am Not Your Negro,13th, The Ivory Game, O.J.: Made in America and others. Out of one hundred forty-five films submitted to the category the list has been trimmed down to fifteen. The final five documentaries, as well as films in other categories, will be announced on January 24, 2017. I Am Not Your Negro, a documentary based on the work of James Baldwin, was directed by Raoul Peck. 13th, which is now available on Netflix, is directed by Ava DuVernay and chronicles race in the United States criminal justice system. The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.
