Damn, 2016 has really been a tough year. Earlier this evening, it was announced that Kevin Ferguson or as he was more affectionately known, Kimbo Slice, has passed away at age 42. Kimbo was a street fighting legend in Miami in the days when youtube and viral videos were just becoming a thing. I remember as a kid watching countless compilations of Kimbo knocking out any and all takers in bare knuckle backyard fights. This online success turned Kimbo into somewhat of an online folk hero, which helped jump start a less successful career in MMA fighting with the UFC and later Bellator before his passing (last fighting this past February).
Bellator president Scott Coker released a statement:
Kimbo was hospitalized earlier Monday morning near his home in South Florida for undisclosed reasons. There has been no word on the cause of his death, but foul play is not suspected according to the Coral Springs Police. R.I.P. Kimbo.
