Erykah Badu is having a moment right now, what with her brilliant new cover of "Hotline Bling" and news that a brand new mixtape is on her her release agenda. It's in that spirit that Mixtape Monday brings you a recently-unearthed throwback set of Badu-isms, mixed and compiled by DJ Tony Slowmo (and allegedly recorded on a Radio Shack microphone--it's so DIY!). Waiting behind that is a new set from Prefuse 73, a bit of House Shoes, some Sofie and plenty more. That hotline is starting to bling again, so let's begin.

The timeless catalog of Erykah Badu doesn't really need any help in the funk department, but what happens when you take her classic cuts and weave them into hip-hop breaks and and even harder-knocking format? You'll have to listen to Tony Slowmo's newest set in order to find out. There's some Milkbone in there, a bit of Nas and plenty more of those classic breaks you've been head-nodding to for years. This one only recently re-appeared online, but it was in truth made way back in 1998, laid down straight to cassette and recorded via...a Radioshack microphone. Still, it brings the goodness. "Apple Tree" over a sparse rimshot and snippets of The Roots' "Proceed"? Check.

Ever the tinkerer, the dimension-bender, the status quo dissenter, Prefuse 73 covers a massive amount of ground in relatively little time on his new "Narco Breakups" mix, which sees the likes of Oddisee, Vince Staples, Fettway and Lianne La Havas all mixing it up (with a little Nils Frahm tossed on the top for good measure). There appear to be absolutely no rules when it comes to Prefuse's mixes--a philosophy that closely mirrors his approach to beat construction. Listen to it below--it's full of surprises.

The goodness that is House Shoes's Dublab Magic series continued this past week, with the Detroit lion laying down grooves both past and present, always keeping rhythmic ingenuity at the forefront of his sound system.

By this point you should know the deal when it comes to a sofieSOS Radio set: dark murky funk, brilliant-bright dance grooves, dusty beatscapes and very special guests. Her latest show is no exception, with Yung Leem taking the helm for an hour-long set that's got plenty of wild new sh*t you've probably never heard, no matter how many late nights you stayed up traveling down the Weird SoundCloud rabbit hole.

We do our best to keep Mixtape Monday loaded with vibrant hip-hop chops and gritty drums. But damn it, sometimes you just need a mix you can dance your ass off to, and this is one of the finest electro cut-ups we've heard in ages. Sosupersam, (aka Samantha Duenas) who hails from Los Angeles and is right in step with the Soulection camp, has just dropped "SUP?1", an uptempo blend of electro, electro house, electro flips of old trooves and, you guessed it, even more electro. Things start strong and by the time Josh Pan's "If" kicks in, you'll be in heaven. We promise.

Australian electro engineer Flume (aka Harley Edward Streten) finally got his shot at the BBC Essential Mix series last weekend, and he sure as hell made the most of it. What could possibly be more proper than a Marley Marl mixtape, ripped straight off the radio from 1989, only to be preserved on cassette and finally uploaded online for the rest of the globe to enjoy? The answer is nothing. Absolutely nothing. This is a little slice of history right here, and you better believe we're spending the entire week with it. As an added bonus, Ultramagnetic MCs & 3rd Bass stop by to catch some wreck.

Ever the reliable purveyor of grooves, Gilles Peterson paid a touching tribute to Roy Ayers on his latest BBC Worldwide show, spinning a solid middle block of fusion-R&B-Jazz from the legendary man. Also in the mix are cuts from Selda, Fania All Stars, Sixtus Preiss and so much more. Savor this one all the way through because you'll be hard-pressed to find a more global-geared set...until next week, that is.

It appears all systems are go over at Music is My Sanctuary, now that its head honcho Lexis has returned from some European travels. Whether he copped boatloads of records during that trip, or just got inspired by the local Sausage in Krakow, it seems this week's set is nothing but rare Polish grooves. We won't complain, we're just going to keep moving to it, even if we don't understand a single word.
