Minnesota Governor Declares June 7th "Prince Day"

Tomorrow, June 7th, the world will continue its celebration of Prince and all the excellence he's bestowed upon us on what would have been the icon's 58th birthday. Though he himself would not have taken part in the celebrations, the day will prove to be a solemn reminder of another legend gone far too soon, passing on April 21st at his Paisley Park home and studio.

If you've been anywhere near these pages in the weeks since, you know there's been no shortage of reverence proclaimed for The Purple One and his eternal glow. The state of Minnesota, however, will be taking the festivities to new heights, declaring Prince's birthday as the statewide holiday "Prince Day," where purple attire and spontaneous episodes of Purple Rain enactments are not just welcome, but mandated.

Again, Prince was not one to celebrate his birthday due to his religious beliefs, but that certainly doesn't mean we can't praise the man. It seems likely that there will be all sorts of events popping up in Minnesota (particularly in his hometown of Minneapolis,) so if you happen to be in the midwest, be sure to book a little day trip to take part in the festivities.
