The Roots Jam Session was back in effect last night if you haven’t heard. And that means a whole new crew of the game’s finest came to rock with the mighty Illa Fifth at their epic-yet-intimate Hollywood Hotel Cafe residency. While night 1 brought us a massive musical collision of OG Okayplayers that resulted in the perennial hit-machine known as will.i.am cutting up the stage with the fellas in a live and direct cut of “Joints & Jam,” night 2 was graced by the appearance of super-crooner Miguel, who took to the very same stage to “Adorn” the crowd with a soaring performance of his 2013 smash.
Captain Questlove and Frankie Knuckles might have been the only Roots reps to take the stage, but trust, the performance was nothing short of full force, stretching the ballad to its absolute limits. Frank & Ahmir held down a pocket that was too too deep, as the guitar went to church and the low-end boomed fiercely. If you’ve been wondering what the crew’s been up to on their westward journey, check out our full recap and roll call of attendees and ensuing shenanigans at all three jams to date and keep it locked for tomorrow’s breakout performance as well as a whole new roster of musical maniacs. Watch Miguel performing “Adorn” with a little help from Questo and Frankie at The Roots Jam Session below–and when we say he hit all the notes…hit all the notes,.
