As if Ava DuVernay‘s upcoming OWN drama Queen Sugar wasn’t already one of the most anticipated shows of the fall season, the heralded director and activist just dropped a bomb that’s poised to drop jaws across the globe. Taking to her Twitter account, DuVernay broke the seal on the announcement of Meshell Ndegeocello‘s involvement in the production, where she will take up the task of providing a score for the show as its composer.
For Ndegeocello, it will mark the first we’ve heard of her since popping up as a producer and player on r&b up-and-comer Solo Woods‘ “Lightwalk,” providing the subterranean low-end for one of last year’s finest frequencies. Queen Sugar is set for a two-night premiere on Tuesday, September 6th and Wednesday, September 7th, both at 10pm, continuing on to a air every Wednesday night at 10pm. See the trailer for Queen Sugar down below along with DuVernay’s announcing tweet. September can’t come soon enough.
