On Monday (May 11), the singer posted an archived video interview where Harrell, alongside Blige, discusses how he watched her grow into an artist.

“I watched Mary grow from a young woman into a real lady,” Harrell said. “…Mary is becoming a full-fledged artist, and I’m proud of her…Mary J. Blige all comes from her feelings, and I think that gives her the confidence to know, like, ‘I’m Mary J. Blige.'”

“I don’t know where I would be if you didn’t believe in me,” Blige wrote in a caption alongside the video. “This can’t be real. Thank you for helping me and loving me until the last days of your life. Rest easy my musical father. I will continue to do my very best to make you proud and continue to find joy and inspiration in your life and legacy.”

On Monday, Diddy also shared a tribute to Harrell.
