Mack Wilds - New York A Love Story
Actor turned R&B crooner (Tristan) Mack Wilds and rapper turned actor Method Man dropped "Wild Things," a track off Wilds' forthcoming debut New York: A Love Story. The Salam Remi-produced track features big breaks, big strings and a big overture on what is inarguably a BIG track. The two former stars of David Simon's The Wire likely met on set of the Baltimore-based crime drama, but hold much in common outside of their trip down I-95 to Murdaland endeavoring to act. Both are Staten Island natives (and as we discovered when we hung with Mack at Sony's offices the other day, they actually knew each other--which is to say Meth knew young Tristan as the little kid kicking around the barbershop where he went to get a fade with the sides clean). Both have a clear obligation to balance their acting and music careers. And ultimately both have a flavor that is distinctively and decisively New York.
Cheese (Meth) and Michael (Wilds) deliver a strong effort and glimpse into what promises to be a strong freshman album all its own. With production from Pete Rock, DJPremier and The Roots' James Poyser, Wilds' debut is shaping up to be the type of debut that most newcomers could only dream of and is slated for release next week on September 20th.
