UPDATE: Lizzo has responded to the controversy surrounding the thong dress she wore to a recent backsetball game.
The singer did an Instagram Live to address the backlash.
“You don’t have to be like me, you need to be like you and never ever let somebody stop you, or shame you from being yourself. This is who I’ve always been. Now everyone’s looking at it… and your criticism can just remain your criticism. Your criticism has no effect on me, negative criticism has no stake in my life, no control over my life, over my emotions,” she said. “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been I’m surrounded by love and I just want to spread that love – and also spread these cheeks. And you know what? If you really, really don’t like my ass, you can kiss it. ‘Cause kissing it makes it go away, I promise.”

We just hope Lizzo didn’t actually sit her bare butt on a public seat.
A dress that Lizzo wore to a recent basketball game has divided the internet.
On Sunday night, Lizzo attended the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves game at the Staples Center in LA. The “Truth Hurts” singer wore a black t-shirt dress with the bottom part cut out, showing her bare butt, a black thong, and black fishnet stockings. And both those in attendance, as well as those watching the game on their TV screens, were able to see the dress for themselves for when Lizzo twerked on the jumbotron while cheerleaders did a routine to her song “Juice.”
Lizzo got her thong on the Lakers Jumbotron. That quick cut away LOOOOOOL. #LakeShow pic.twitter.com/k5dtjbaaiz

Since then, people have spoken in support of and against Lizzo and her dress. The former is arguing that she can wear what she wants and those that are mad at the outfit are being fatphobic, while the latter is arguing that she shouldn’t have worn the dress because it’s a family event. Others have made jokes about the dress, too, comparing it to WWE wrestler Rakishi’s outfit.
If you have to preface your criticism of Lizzo with, “it’s not because she’s fat and Black,” chances are you feel small type of way about fat Black women. And I’mma just leave it there.

Lizzo had her ass out and people are saying that we don’t approve because she’s fat?
LMFAOOOOOOO.
When are y’all gonna let that tired fatphobia narrative go? Kids were at the game. Wth.

The reality is that Lizzo’s outfit isn’t a big deal. However, what everyone should really be concerned about is if the artist actually placed her bare butt on a public seat, because public seats are gross. Here’s to hoping that she did not do that, all while having the time of her life (and apparently shooting her shot at Timberwolves player Karl Anthony-Towns).
So Lizzo was okay sitting her bare ass on a public seat? pic.twitter.com/C8tyEPZb5k
